If you have toddlers or work with toddlers then you are no stranger to baby wipes. You use them for everything. They are great. Everyday we use a crazy amount of baby wipes on our kids. Wiping their faces, hands, and bottoms, but at some point we have to stick them in the bath tub. The filth becomes too great. Nothing will get them clean and they need a good scrubbing with soap and water.
I actually thought of this reading Hebrews today. The old covenant required the people of God to go through strict rituals to receive a mere baby wipe bath. It got them clean, but they smelled like baby wipes. But Jesus came and made the ultimate sacrifice by offering himself for the sins of man. He has come to not just wipe us down, but to cleanse us from the inside out. He has scrubbed us on the inside. We are pure and truly clean. Are you clean today? Have you fully trusted in the work of Christ that he has purified us? Hebrews 9:14 "how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?"
What another great book by Chan. I am really encouraged and excited that this is available to the church. Francis is a very passionate communicator and it is evident in this book. I love the simplicity of it, along with some powerful theological viewpoints. If you are unsure of what the Holy Spirit does and His role in our life, you must read this book. If you haven't read Crazy Love i recommend it as well. Both are great reads. I give this book an A.

Just wrapped up a decent book by Max Lucado, FEARLESS. This book is a great read. It read very easy and fast. I think Max was in tune with the culture and where people are at. With the way of the economy times have created a fear in alot of people. Fear is something that all of us deal with. I didn't realize how much fear I had in my life until after reading this book. Fear of being a parent, fear of disappointing God. This book addresses many other fears, that we may or may not be aware of.
The great thing about this book is that is very Christ centered. Lucado doesn't just present a problem without providing hope in the very person of Christ. A good book - A
Pilate asked Jesus the question what is truth? I doubt he was sincere, but nonetheless, it is a great question to ask. Here are some things to ponder on about truth:
Truth corresponds with the facts, it matches its onject, and it tells it like it is. All truth claims are absolute, narrow and exclusive. Even the claim that "every religion is true" excludes its opposite. The thought that 2+2=4 is narrow minded. Of all of the infinte numbers there is only one answer.
Truth is discoverd, not invented. It exists independently of anyone's knowledge of it. For example gravity existed prior to Newton.
Beliefs cannot change a fact, no matter how sincerely they are held. I can sincerely believe the world is flat, but that only makes me sincerely wrong.
Truth is trans-cultural. Being raised in a given cultural doesn't make their beliefs true. For example being raised a Nazi doesn't make Nazism true. One's attitude doesn't change the truth. Objective truth can't be denied.
The student ministry will kick off the semester with Purpose leading in worship, along with games and a devotion. We have some exciting things coming in the student ministry. Are you ready to face your peers this school year? We want to prepare you to live out your faith on your campus this year!
The site ChristianAudio.com is giving away the Francis Chan audio book “Crazy Love“. I read it, and it’s great. I can’t wait to listen to it as well. Here’s a quote:
“Sometimes I feel like when I make decisions that are remotely biblical, people who call themselves Christians are the first to criticize and say I’m crazy, that I’m taking the Bible too literally, or that I’m not thinking about my family’s well-being. . . When people gladly sacrifice their time or comfort or home, it is obvious that they trust in the promises of God. Why is it that the story of someone who has actually done what Jesus commands resonates deeply with us, but we then assume we could never do anything so radical or intense? Or why do we call it radical when, to Jesus, it is simply the way it is? The way it should be?”
Just wrapped up a decent book by Christianity Today, Study Series Faith and Pop Culture. This book takes on a variety of topics, including how God can speak to us through the arts, and how Christians should discern between entertainment that is meaningful and that which is destructive.
This book is meant to be done in small group but i found it be a good read for individual study. The book comes with different perspectives with various authors. It definitely will spark discussion with the various topics and diverse views. What i did like about this book, is that it did not take a legalistic approach to Pop Culture. However there is a balance to be in the world but not of the world. This book addresses where Christians fit into the whole picture of culture. I recommend this book especially if you have teenagers or work with teenagers. I think this book lays out a healthy between faith and pop culture. A good book - B+
Just finished up Praise Habit: Finding God in Sunsets and Sushi by David Crowder, part of David Crowder*Band. (The have a new album coming in September'09.) I really enjoyed this book. David is a great writer. He has a way with words and bringing you into his life. It is a very encouraging and God exalting book. I used it as a devotional along with my Bible reading. All in all a great read to encourage you to praise God in everything you do. A
